A colleague has found out I have an lj. I wouldn't tell him my username, but he's taken that as a challenge. So, DH, if you're reading this, you've found me.

Let me know if he finds you. I've always been curious as to exactly how hard it is to correlate an LJ with a real-world person, working in either direction. I hope this remark doesn't help provide extra clues for DH's search either. Oh, hi DH! :)

I don't think there's going to be one answer for that. Having your real name as your user name, or linking to your contact info is going to make it a lot easier :-)

Yea,I agree [frantically checking profile for links to reality. phew.] — although I reckon any LJ that's been there for a while has wee gossamer threads linking it to other LJs, mentions of places, people, and so on. All of which could help to (slowly) map an LJ to a real person. Going the other way, however, is a real challenge! I'd try it myself if only I knew of somebody who had an LJ but knew no more than that...

And here I am!
Scary, eh? I suppose I should prove I am who I say I am... we were talking about a mutual friend, ROD, who is now far away.

Anyway, don't worry, your secret is safe with me.

Re: And here I am!
I found yours too, but that wasn't exactly difficult.
Thanks for the secret keeping!

Re: And here I am!
I'm curious now if this post made my lj too easy to find.

Are you going to do some kind of post so that I know if I've found your account on that site we were talking about, or do I just have to hope I've chosen a suitable icon?

Re: And here I am!
My turn to be scared... I really thought I had separated my public web presence from my pseudonymous one. Apparently not!
