Hey, a link! Cheers :-)

Got into a whiskey conversation at the thanksgiving meal. I was able to tell them about the new distillery thanks to your blog. I decided the easiest way to get the blog address to one of the guys was to twitter it.

Had an 18 year old Bushmills. Nice. Not that I'd be able to tell the difference between that and a normal one. Had a sip of Middleton tonight. I'm trying a lot of whiskey for someone who isn't drinking :-)

I heard Michael Colgan tell a story recently. He didn't drink at all for many years and was once at a function where another theatre dude said he didn't drink either. Next thing, other theatre dude plucks a glass of wine off a tray as it passes. Colgan says, "I thought you didn't drink". Other guy replies, "I don't. This is culture."

Whiskey is our culture. We can't remain ignorant of our culture, can we?

You were really living high with your aged Bushmills and Midleton! I scored some free whiskey at the Craft Fair today.

Tee hee hee.

I was wondering whether it would be ok to enjoy the odd whiskey. But I had a very small amount of red wine on Tues and my head was killing me yesterday. Ok, red wine is famous as a migraine trigger, but it'd be the tanins, and I think it's tanins and other related substances that make whiskey taste interesting. Apparently the best alcohols are the clear ones, like vodka, but I don't think people drink vodka for the taste :-)

I've never been a big whiskey drinker (never been much of a drinker at all), but if I was to allow myself a little drink now and then, I think whiskey would be a good one, as you can take your time over it, and one could do me the night. Except for the tanin issue :-/

It probably helps that whiskey is not aged in new oak. That definitely cuts way back on the tannins. It's possible to pick up oakiness or dryness in some whiskeys but I've never found that tannic bitterness you get in red wine.

Maybe I'll give that a go then. Are you free Friday evening next week? I'm thinking of going out for birthday drinks. You could help me pick a whiskey to try :-)

That would be nice. Can I come back to you next week? I have sworn to ship something in the coming week, come hell or high water. I must deny myself all pleasures until it's done.

No problem. If you ship, will I get to hear what it is?

Drinks details in later post.

You will be the first to know! I'll probably mention it on my weblog anyway. Don't expect anything big :-)

Small & useful/fun is better than big & awkward!
