house update
Thanks for the help with the tile and kitchen decision making. We settled on ivory in the end (or beige, or whatever it turned out to be). The poll made it quite clear what I wanted - every time I saw a vote was made, I hoped it would be ivory! You can see the finished result here.

In the kitchen, we went for a Liebherr fridge; a De Deitrich oven, though not the one leedy pointed out, which unfortunately isn't available any more. I forget the hob brand. Siemens I think. 80cm induction hob, anyway. I was going to ask your opinion on dishwashers too, but we ordered one on Tuesday. Siemens also. The kitchen guy has ordered the sink and tap for us. We had very little sink choice in the end, due to the way the kitchen is laid out. The windows open inwards, so the tap would be in the way. If we'd thought about that, we wouldn't have gone for the traditional sink by window! To put it as out of the way as possible, we wanted the tap on the outside of the (double) sink/drainer unit ie the order would be small sink, big sink, drainer, rather than having the small sink, and therefore the tap, in the centre. There was one, rather expensive one, in the kitchen man's catalogue, but I found a cheaper one in Franke. Not cheap, just cheaper. Never found any others, though I did get distracted by the utilities. Anyway, hopefully all of them will arrive in time for the kitchen installation in early October.

The only remaining appliance to choose for the kitchen (utility room is a different matter) is the extractor hood. That won't affect the installation of the rest though.

The next essential job is the rest of the plumbing. The tiling is all done, so there's nothing preventing the bathroom plumbing from going ahead. Perhaps he's waiting so he can do the kitchen plumbing at the same time.

Then the doors. Though I was toying with the idea of living without doors for a while. We are going to leave the untiled floors for now, to save money. The utility room too.

Smaller bits after that - a shower screen so at least one of the showers can be used, final bits of wiring, shelves in the larder, curtains/blinds, etc.

Photos here, as always.

Ahahhaa, Tetris shower!

Except that Tetris is 5 squares per piece, isn't it? But I'm still impressed with your extreme geekiness.

It must be a contender for the geekiest bathroom ever :-)

No, tetris is four squares. There's a hextris too, that has six hexagons. Five squares (or pentagons?) would be pentris, or something.

I'm so proud of those tiles :-)

Oh! I never realised that the tet- was for the four!

Also, I have now just spent the last twenty minutes playing online tetris. Aargh!

From the Russian, I believe. Ask your lovely lady. It was originally written by a couple of Russian programmers, IIRC.

Sorry! I will not be tempted. I will not be tempted...
