I wonder am I more like you or cat_rant? What are your favourite shows, and what are hers?

Damn individuality. We don't match either of you :-)

We both loved Heroes (season 1) and BSG (season 2). I think they'd be my top two. Also fond of House (1), B5 (we re-watched recently), 6 Feet Under (season 2, I think), CSI (1). We've only seen the first season of the new Dr Who, and that was a good while ago. I want to see more, and Torchwood, but I'm not sure about nuteile.

Neither of us thought that much of Bones, but we only saw the first half of season 1 & I've heard it gets better. I'm bored of Lost after two seasons; he'd be interested in seeing more.

We haven't seen Supernatural (obviously), Life on Mars, Pushing Daisies or Avatar.

I think my main interest in Supernatural is that I keep coming across fanfic, and I want to know who the characters are. Especially if I see them in a crossover with a fandom I want to read.

I think I'll probably leave it for now. I was looking at some of the shows at reduced prices on Amazon, and there's others I'm more interested in trying, like Torchwood, as well as the next seasons of things we know we like.

Why don't you like BSG?

Minbari do not laugh at Minbari.

We're doing the buying a season thing too. We don't watch TV at home at all (different matter in the in-laws, but he mainly watches disaster stuff, which I'm not interested in)

I see what you mean about BSG. When I put it top two, I was really thinking of season 1 & the first half of season 2. I think the story writing/characterisation got worse then too. We were just after saying how brilliant it was that things happened due to cause and effect and character (eg things spiralling out of control when Tigh was in charge), unlike the Star Trek way of happening across random things, when the episodes suddenly became based on happening across random things. I'm also so fucking disappointed that the rescue of people from Caprica (probably after you stopped watching) became about rescuing Starbuck's romantic interest and they completely forgot about the farms. But I loved the earlier stuff enough that I have high hopes for Season 3 and onwards. I think it'll be starting with occupation, Vichy France stuff, but I hope they'll only stay on-planet for a few episodes. I hadn't realised that the original BSG was only a season long. I think they stayed on a planet for an episode, so it makes sense that the re-imagining stays on one for a few - things can take longer because they have more time to work with. I hope they never make it to Earth though - I remember the original going downhill then. Speaking of which, I've been toying with getting the original series too.

I think I like when people are fighting themselves. My favourite characters in Season 1 were Starbuck (cos she's so damn cool) and Galactica!Boomer, because of her struggle between her cylon side and her human side. Likewise, in Heroes, I really like Nikki's story, with the trying to work out what was going on and why these weird things were happening around/to her. Also, Ali Larter's acting is fabulous. There was a very distinct difference between Nikki and Jessica, but she was slightly different again when Jessica was pretending to be Nicki, and when the shape shifter was pretending.

Re CSI, why do you like House? I like it for the same reason as I like CSI - intelligent people solving problems. I don't normally go for medical dramas - too squeamish.

I've watched all the episodes to date and largely enjoyed it. It doesn't have much more depth than Buffy or Angel and follows a similar formula but this isn't a criticism so much as a description. Its perfectly good telly, not outstanding, not bad by any means.

I really liked Buffy & Angel, especially Buffy.
