Inannajones' birthday
A few of us went to El Bahia last night for sabayone' birthday. I'd never been there before. I'd go again, though I do have one complaint - my starter (a lentil dish) was quite filling, so I only ate about half my main course (chicken couscous), but they wouldn't wrap it to take away. So next time, either no starter, or bring some foil or a container.

Being at the end of the table, I didn't get to talk to most people till we left, but between nuteile, socmot , kiffergeo and myself, we covered a range of topics, including which cute or disgusting animals we would eat.

For those on my flickr friendslist, here's some photos. Those who aren't, tell me your usernames.

Ooh, did somebody get pastilla? I had that in Morocco and was possibly the densest/richest foodstuff I have ever eaten. Mighty tasty, mind.

Is that what's it's called? Chicken in pastry, with plenty of sugar and cinnamon on top. I tasted a bit of the chicken, and even that was sweet and a little crunchy, even though I don't think I got any pastry on my fork.

My own, Tangier Cous Cous, was reasonably sweet too. There were raisins in it, and it was garnished with onion that seemed quite sweet too.

That's the thing. I think the version I had in Morocco had pigeon instead of chicken, though.

I wonder is there anywhere in Dublin that serves pigeon? I had it once in Prague, and it was nice IIRC, but haven't had a chance since.

I think I mostly had chicken tagines in Morocco.

I have a vision of "tender Dubbelin pigeon, fresh from Pearse St"...perhaps not...

Hmm... I might avoid that if I come across it.

This is feeding back into our cute/disgusting animal eating...

I had the El Bahia Cous Cous, and it was fantastic.
And the Merques for starters! Nom!

strange they didn't wrap it up for you, they have always done so for me (same problem with being too full, plus I love their deserts!), though last time we went was over a year ago. Maybe they just ran out of to-go containers or something.

So what cute stuff would you eat? ;)

Rabbit is one I have eaten.

Weirdly, I thought quail was still cute after seeing a pair of oven ready ones. Normally, the loss of fur or feathers renders animals non-cute, but there was something about the shape. I don't think I've ever eaten it, but I'd like to. I have had quails eggs. Not quite the same thing. They are cuter than hens eggs though!

Calves are pretty cute. Much cuter than cows. I've eaten veal.

I can't see myself eating cat or dog.

We are going to live on Quail Terrace when we move :)
I always thought squirels were exceedingly cute, but just creepy looking when skinned and oven ready.
