Did I mention I was knitting bears for orphans in Vietnam? They've arrived! My two are the ones on the left of the first photo - pink jumper and orange dress.

I love the photo of all of them.

Here's more Irish bear photos, including in progress shots of teddy 3, which I'm still knitting. With fair isle!

unav, leedy, please correct me if I've got your bears mixed up in my photos.

There's one in particular in the big group photo, with white fur and a purple jumper, that looks like it's going "pick me up and give me a cuddle".

Do you knit or crochet? Want to take part in the next bear drive?

Yes, thanks. That would be great. I knit but have never mastered the knack of crochet. As an advance planning tool would you please let me know when it is likely to be. Also, do you supply a pattern?

Re: Want to take part in the next bear drive?
Oops, I meant to link in the last post, but forgot. The pattern is here: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_4826306,00.html

It's very simple - here's what it looks like before seaming, adding arms and stuffing: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mollydot/2355772848/

I'm not sure when she wants the next lot for. Perhaps January? I know she wanted these lot a long time ago, but was waiting to receive more so that it would be a decent sized gift. I don't know when "Tet" is, that she mentions in this post: http://zoje-george.livejournal.com/247227.html

Can't remember whether or not I replied to you. Would definitely like to be in and have downloaded a pattern. Just please make a note to let me know when it is all on again.
I used to do a lot of knitting and then when the grandchildren arrived and daughters and daughters-in-law all decided to throw clothes into the washing machine I lost interest.

Re: Want to take part in the next bear drive?
Will do!

I'm trying to get up the nerve to knit myself some clothes, but there's two thing putting me off. One is getting the size completely wrong; the other is looking after it.

Re: Want to take part in the next bear drive?
I''d encourage you to continue with your plan to knit for yourself. I have two colourful hand knitted cardigans, both at least 10 years old and still getting compliments when I wear them. They are getting a trifle thin in places but warm and comfortable. I have had to put a few rows of very thin elastic thread through the cuffs which have stretched over time. They don't show and keep things in control. When they were new I did get them drycleaned but now handwashing and drying flat on a towel inside out in the harsh NZ sun works well. I wouldn't consider using the washing machine although people do without complaint using a soft wash cycle. Not for me though.
