London peeps
We're going to London for the Bookcrossing convention next weekend. As I have no job to go home to, I'm staying another few days. Anyone want to meet up, or have suggestions of things I must do? (Or craft shops I must not visit?)

Lovely Man is going home on the Monday, so I'll be available from the afternoon of Monday 21st till the evening of Wednesday 23rd.

Go to see the Tower of London- quite expensive but sooo worth it. For a free treat there is the British Musem of course- has a great shop too- and if the weather is good, stroll around the quays around the Millenium wheel, where you can see so many famous landmarks (haven't gone on the wheel but by all accounts it is Highly overpriced for what it is).

I went to the Tower of London when I was a kid, but all I remember now is the ravens. It'd be worht another look, especially as I've recently read some books that partly took place there.

The Tower of London is defo worth it - I went there in November - and you can certainly do a full day of it (but can see a good chunk in half a day). I hear that the White Tower is under maintenance work at the moment so I dont know if that will affect how much you can see. Try and get on a guided tour.

And whilst I've got the Monday off, I'll be in Brum, so it look like we'll miss each other.

Take one of the Bus Tours around London - that'll give you a good view of the city. I've spent most of my times in London going around on the tube, so I have a very shaky knowledge of what above ground looks like!

Avoid Liberty's for fabrics and vague stitchy-crafty stuff (I dont know what their wools are like). Avoid Borders on Oxford Street for books etc.

Do you have any of the Renegades on you friend list? Some of them may be up for a meet.

I'm not sure who exactly the renegades are. I imagine I'll meet many of them at the convention.

Is that avoid because they're bad, or avoid for the sake of my wallet and space in the house?

semioticghosts (Ester) and fechtbuch (Andy) are two I would keep an eye out for - they may be around in town to meet up

And avoid for the sake of your wallet. Havent been to Liberty's for a while to be honest, but have seen some wonderful cross stitch stuff etc in there before now. And of course they have the classic Liberty fabrics too

Damn. Just been over to Liberty's to see what their website says and get this....

Sorry!

I've met fechtbuch, but not semioticghosts.

Lucky you! I'd be saying go to Liberty's and go to Borders!

One place I really like is the National Portrait Gallery/

Hope you have a great time at the Convention and do look out for the three Kiwis there. Hope you write up your experiences while you are there. We stay-at-homes need to hear all about it. - Please!

I imagine I'll be picking up plenty of books at the convention, so I probably should avoid Borders, whether it's good or not!

I've set up my mobile on twitter, so keep an eye on my twitter feed ( https://twitter.com/mollydot ) for updates. I won't make any other promises, as I'm not too good at following though.

I'll be meeting friends in London this week, so I'm not sure I can afford two trips so close to one another. But if you feel like heading over to Oxford, just let me know.

Hmm... I've never been to Oxford! If I do go, would the Tuesday suit you?
m_nivalism_nivalis on April 15th, 2008 07:40 am (UTC)
Tuesday sounds good. Do you have my phone number? I'll e-mail you some sightseeing tips, as I can't take the entire day off.

I'm not sure. Best to mail me with it.
Sightseeing tips would be cool too. I was thinking I could do a bus tour as a fast way of getting an overview, seeing as I'll only have the day.
