update on the house build

Originally uploaded by mollydot
Things have been pretty static for the last couple of months, but they seem to be getting moving again. I hope so anyway! Some more plumbing has been done, so the tiling can get started and the ceiling and plastering can get going in the porch. The electricity has been connected, so the heat can be turned on soon to dry the place out.

I've uploaded some photos from December. Click here for the beginning of them (starts with the digger - the first four are older). I've annotated two of them with what windows belong to what room - front (south) and south east. Mouse over the photos to see. Click the links to see photos of those rooms.

The biggest change since those photos were taken is that the stairs (by gothwalk's dad and brucius) are in. This is wonderful in two ways - we really like them, as does everyone else who's seen them, and I'm no longer nervous about going upstairs, or more specifically, downstairs. I hated using the ladder.

There'll be a roof bit there. Originally, it was going to slope down from the wall outwards, but it would have been against the short bit of wall beside the door, and with the quoins, the builder said it wouldn't work. So now it's going to come to a point, following those lines you can see.

Beautiful house! It looks huge, how many bedrooms/ rooms has it got?

Four. One at each corner of upstairs. I'm claiming one as a craft room. There's a study downstairs too, that could potentially become a bedroom if we become to decrepit for the stairs. It's intentionally right opposite the downstairs loo. The downstairs loo is one bit that got messed up. There's supposed to be a wet room type shower - no shower tray, but a sloped floor. But it wasn't poured right, and because of the underfloor heating, it can't be dug into. So we're skipping the shower entirely. Until there actually is someone with mobility issues in the house, there's no need for one to be there. There plumbing is there if one is needed in the future.

The whole house is 220 metres.

(Great icon, BTW)

Even the builder is saying good things! He's tended to be slightly negative the couple of times we've not gone by his recommendations.

Wow, that's _big_. I never quite got the scale of it when we were talking about it, and now it has stairs(!) and windows(!) and all those good things.

OMG, it's amazing. It was amazing seeing the transition from greenfield site to "mansion" on Flickr.

Can't WAIT for the housewarming.

Edited for premature post

It's partly due to changing camera settings, but I love the groups of same colour photos when looking at the set in thumbnail view.

Eeeeee! Bring sleeping bags!

Our little rural getaway, you know.

Hmm... so what are you suggesting? Housewarming before painting?

I don't want rude painting all over my house, thank you very much!

Don't you know that this season interior decoration is all about the penis murals?

It's crossing over into interior design now - choosing tiles and the like.

I want to see the stairs ~ my builder ran away after leaving his wife & has taken the details of the people who should be making the stairs to my room ~ I have a hole there & have to come up the other stairs & through the middle room to reach my bedroom. Could you try to email me a stair piccy to killimengri@gmail.com as my connection speed is so fast (2.4Kbs) that Flikr can't cope with it! The lack of speed is driving me nuts here

Oops! Sorry for the slow reply.

My photos are huge - mailing you one would probably be worse than using flickr. Give me a poke when I do upload them and I can send you a direct link to some photos.

I'm trying out a Vodafone wireless modem ~ it's on GPRS not 3G which hasn't hit here yet, but my speed is up to 53.6 now :) I think I might stick with this, or maybe try o2 as my UK 'phone (for the childer) is picking up a 3G signal. I get a trial period with both modems. 3G as a company refused me because they have nothing out here!

Yes! Very much so.

And you're using openid! Funny - it still shows your ip address, as if you were anonymous.
