my bc bookshelf
A comment at the bookcrossingie dinner last night made me wonder where the books on my bookshelf come from.

So, here's the breakdown.

Me: 43
Lovely Man: 9
Both of us: 8
Bought (by me) for bookcrossing: 9
non-bookcrossers (registered by me): 26
silja(PenguinSilja): 21
wyvernfriend: 7
Gizmopuddy: 4
eefa: 4
jubby: 3
azureskippy: 3
wiblick: 2
nordie: 2
mintymingler: 2
davidg666: 1
innae: 1
(total: 145)

Me: If I bought it or was it was given to me
Non-bookcrossers: If it was given to me to bookcross, or it was left in our flat by previous flatmates/their friends.
Bought for bookcrossing: Cheap books I bought specifically to give away. I've marked some TBR, but I wouldn't have bought them if it wasn't for bookcrossing.
If a book was registered by Silja, but given to me by WyvernFriend, I count it as coming from WyvernFriend.

So, they mostly come from me. Next is non bookcrosssers. The bulk of this is the Catholic marriage counselling books. Next biggest source is Silja.

Of course, this doesn't answer the question, which was "have you given away more of your books then mine yet?". I think I'll work that out at a later date.

Heh; this looks like a league table. I can see it's going to take some work to move up the list from joint-last!

Hmm... that wasn't my intention. Perhaps I should squash everyone else into one row. I think Silja deserves one of her own though!
Please don't try to compete - if you were to give me 20 books now, I'd collapse under the weight of my TBR pile!
It's more a measure of how interested I was in available books, not a measure of generousity. Most of them I got because I asked for them, or they were in the bookclub pile-on-the-table and I took 'em.

2 points:

1) None from me? Dagnabbit.

2) Why do you even have a SECTION for Catholic marriage counseling? I mean, how many unhappily married Catolics do you find yoursef counselling these days?

1. You're not bookcrossing. Or are you? These are just books on my bookcrossing bookshelf ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf/nut ). If you'd like any availables, just ask.

2. It's not so much a section as a big pile. I mentioned bookcrossing to a member of the previous generation. Asked her to give me any books she didn't want any more. She went off to the attic and came back with a lot of books from when she did a marriage counseling course in the 70s. Also a couple from her own pre-marriage course in the 60s. Contents range from such jewels as "Contraception is not only shameful, but intrinsically vicious" to much more sensible things like "The success of a marriage depends on the husband considering his wife's happiness more important than his own, and the wife considering her husband's happiness more important than her own".
Vicious? Vicious?!?

I'm tempted to borrow one of those off you, just to see how much it'd raise mt blood pressure, I mean, for my amusement

You can have one to keep. I've read enough for my amusement. In fact you can have all the ones I have left. You may find working out what to do with them afterwards to be an interesting hobby: http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/1927124 (last entry)

Hmm.. I think I shall. It'd be interesting research. Thank you!
(I'm not on bookcrossing, so I've no idea if I'm supposed to reserve them or anything)

You ask me for them anyway you like (done), and I mark them reserved.
I can bring them along to yoga on Tuesday and give them to WyvernFriend. Or do you do it too?
Caturah Winterhartcaturah on December 10th, 2004 04:22 pm (UTC)
I'll be at yoga myself. Do you do it too?

Yeah, just started this week.
I'll bring them along (4 thin books) and anything else you want.
